THEY CALL IT “THE WINNING EDGE”
Each year, literally tens of thousands of man hours and millions of dollars are spent studying the most successful people in our society. They’re interviewed exhaustively, as are their associates, managers and co-workers.
Subsequently, these days we know more about what it takes to be one of the best in the business, than we have ever known before. But, the most important thing learned from these studies is that success is more about focus than anything else.
But the most significant things discovered about human performance is called “The Winning Edge.” Most believe this is the key to high performance. And in so many cases, it is.
This principle suggests, “minuscule differences in ability can translate into enormous differences in results.” In other words, if you become just a tiny bit better in what you do and believe you can achieve it, it can translate into enormous increases in results.
If an athlete comes in first in a photo finish, he or she could win five or ten times the prize money of the athlete that comes second – even though the variation may only be a few centimetres in a photo finish.
Think about it. The athlete that comes first isn’t five or ten times faster, or even five or ten times better. Generally the financial reward is the only thing that’s substantially greater. Remember the race was only won by centimetres in a photo finish.
The true reward comes from the athletes performance in the race. A miniscule variation in the times made the difference. That was “The Winning Edge.”
In the business field, every time a product is sold, the difference generally is also miniscule. Yet the seller gets 100% of the profit. Those that come second get nothing. Most times the product being sold is neither 100% better, or 100% cheaper than the opposition. It may not even be as good as the competitors products. But, the one who made the sale is the winner.
Moreover, the person who gets the sale, is in most cases, not vastly better than the person who didn’t. He or she merely has “The Winning Edge” and that translates into 100% of the business.
So what then is “That Winning Edge?” In simple terms it’s called “Faith.” And “Faith” is one of the main things that pleases God and moves His hand to action. But you can’t just exercise a blind faith, trumped up for the occasion. It has to be a faith where you do your very best first, then expect results to follow.
Hebrews 11:1, talks about faith in these words, “Now faith is the substance of the things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” So to believe you can triumph in circumstances beyond where you’ve been before is truly the essence of faith. It’s that type of faith that produces “That Winning Edge” over and over.
Those who put their trust in God, and have done their very best before they call upon Him for that little more, have “The Winning edge.” But this time, with God’s involvement it’s not a miniscule advantage over the competition, it’s an enormous advantage.
It also takes that same level of faith to receive from God. You need to do the best you can, then call upon Him for that little more. Hebrews 10:38 says, “Now the just shall live by faith; but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in Him.” In other words, trust God, and do not draw back no matter how tough it may seem, but be careful to follow His ways. That’s “Your Winning Edge.”
Romans 1:17, states, “The just shall live by faith.” And the “just” are those that follow Gods ways.
So what are your needs? Better health, a financial breakthrough, stronger relational skills, more wisdom or a stronger resolve. Whatever it is, start “Calling those things that be not as though they were” and exercise your faith.
And one final point, you can be calling out to God and saying the right things and quoting all the right scriptures, but if your heart doesn’t believe you can achieve whatever you put your mind to, your efforts will wither away.
Only those who have an unswerving faith can attain “The Winning Edge.” And If you don’t feel you have it, pray for it. You deserve nothing less than to be a winner in life.
