Professional Salespeople never contemplate Excuses
The subject I want to share with you is Professional Salespeople never contemplate Excuses. Years ago I went on record stating that excuse making created non-achievers in sales and so often contributed to so many losing hope and the ability to go on and be successful.
Years later in my sales seminars I personally warned that if a salesperson focused on excuses their sales career could come to an abrupt end. And now, perhaps 30 years later, I not only hold that view but suggest the outcome could even be more disastrous than that.
I have looked back on my work on this subject and noted I had produced an number of sales banners on the subject. One simply reads, excuses are the foundation for failure.
Another says, Only losers make excuses over and over again. But my third banner gives hope to others and says, Those that give up complaining and excuse making get on with life usually succeed.
So I ask you, which of those three banners either disturbed you the most, or on the other hand inspired you the most? I hope it was the one that said, Those that give up complaining and excuse making get on with life usually succeed.
My suggestion to everyone that hears this message is …Don’t even spend a microsecond thinking about excuses. Instead, focus your attention on specific and written action steps that will help you reach your goals and have a positive impact on your selling results.
