17 WORDS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE – AS REAL CHANGE IS FOREVER
I remember the day, back in 1974, when I looked through the window of my rented Edwardian-style flat in Elsternwick (a leafy Melbourne, Australia suburb), pondering my recent marriage break up, and the death of my 53 year old father. At the time I had surrendered my “live the vision” focus, that had been with me for the first 28 years of my life, to one of self-pity, and needing some kind of breakthrough, I was wondered how I was going to get my life back on track.
Until that point, my life had experienced one success after another, and despite being plagued by a massive business loss and other financial set-backs just two tears earlier, I had managed to get on top again. But what made the situation even more bewildering, is that my fifth book was in the hands of my publisher waiting on me to make some minor corrections. It all seemed too hard despite the urgings and support of my friends and family. It also seemed to me that so many others were going through life effortlessly and with far less tension and frustration than I was experiencing at the time.
Outwardly, I appeared well balanced to those around me and was in line for a great career change in my new job – despite being perceived to be somewhat wild and a party animal that relied on a little too much drink far too often. However inwardly, I constantly wondered if I could ever straighten out the mess my life had turned into. And it was a mess. I was behind on my dreams, my promises to my 5 year old daughter, and my future focus.
Then one day in 1975 I was introduced to “The Strangest Secret” by Earl Nightingale on 16 mm film by my then Sales Director, Tony Knight. I stayed back in the office playing the 40 minute movie over and over again, soaking it it’s powerful message about the need of dreams and goals and other stuff that today’s motivational speakers talk about. I then viewed the move a further few times the next day before it was returned to the distributor. The information then was radical, heard only by a select few in Australia, and in my case – as with many others my age I had since shared that then experience hundreds of times – that movie was immediately life-changing.
Not long after that experience, and after viewing that movie at every opportunity for the next 2 years, my personal sales kept going up, I was performing in the top 5% of a national sales-force of over 130, and by the end of the second year had been inducted into the Australian Hall of Fame. The following year I was once again inducted into the Australian Hall of Fame despite being promoted to State Manager between the two inductions.
I’m taking the time to tell you this experience, because at about that time, in a company paid seminar, I heard a 17 word phrase that really changed my life, my work ethic and my income. A phrase I really want you to get hold of and to get hold of it NOW! Because if you get to understand the concept of it NOW, your life too can never be the same again. If you understand it, you will start using the same principle that all who have become successful before you have applied over and over and over again.
Here are those 17 words …
For things to change, you must get a picture of what you want them to change too.
Yes, it’s as simple as that and as easy to apply as it seems. And if you try to make it any more complicated than it is, it will only frustrate you.
Then once you apply that 17 word phrase to your written goal list that you read aloud daily, you will train your subconscious mind to know exactly what you want out of life, and the more specific and clear you can get things, the better you will be. This is important because we move towards the pictures we constantly hold and reinforce in our mind about ourselves.
Your brain, operating similar to that of a powerful magnet, will soon start to attract the conditions, the people, and the circumstances that will help you move closer to the mental picture in your mind and repel those things that do not correlate to your mind picture.
Our subconscious mind is so powerful once activated, it simply moves in the direction of the pictures we hold about ourselves without question, converting thought into reality. Then once you know exactly what it is you are moving towards, you will automatically know the steps to take or the steps needed will soon become apparent to you.
Your strength comes from knowing what you want. This ignites a fire inside you that enables you to engage in the activities that will move you closer to what you want – even if you go through trials before you arrive at your mind’s destination.
Whatever you do, just remember that for things to change, you must get a picture of what you want them to change to.
These are the 17 Words that can Change Your Life Forever. Treasure them.
The same applies to the content of this book. It’s all about change and a change for the better. But it will be up to you to grasp the content and want to make the change for the better.
It’s up to you to want to retrain your subconscious mind to understand that if you want more out of life, you will need to do what’s needed to get your subconscious mind to accept a new specific and clear vision of where you want to go and what you will need to do on the journey and when you get there. Remember, this is important because we move towards the pictures we constantly hold and reinforce in our mind about ourselves and where we are heading.

Being a professional in the craft of selling is not a five minute exercise or something based purely on attitude and focus. Try and tell that to any of the professional Doctors, Lawyers or Experts in their field or those in the trades such as Plumbers, Tilers and Builders.
All have learned their craft through learning the foundational aspects of their business, and by constantly honing their skills through on-going study, keeping abreast of their industry innovations and the understanding that they have a need to revisit the basics, or in other words, they need to go back to the basics on a regular basis.
Professional salesmanship is no different to a professional in any other profession, that is if you treat it as a profession. And it really is a high income profession for the sales professional.
The choice is yours. Do you want to stay where you are today, or would you prefer to accelerate your status and income to the levels achieved by the top 1% (or even the top 5%) of the income earners in all the different vocations and industry that come under the sales umbrella?
