A real hard to appreciate fact of life by far too many salespeople is that before somebody buys something they want to discard or upgrade on something else. In fact, once this one fact becomes a revelation to them, they will simply languish as salespeople – but once they grasp this one fact their selling will usually take off big-time

You can tell about peoples goals by how they pursue them. Preparation is called step zero.
Most sales scenarios have an average of 5 to 7 steps of the sale. Step zero is the behind the scenes when no one one is looking, but your inner drive thrives here because it is real. Just a few examples;
I noticed salespeople after work were dressed nicer than how they showed up to work and displayed more enthusiasm in after hours endevours than on the job. What can you infer from this?
Another one, not related but shows intent.
Eddie Rickenbacker was our only flying ace in world war one, there were many qualified pilots who did not have this distinction. We can attribute this to the fact that he would spend his nights with the mechanics and armourers.
Gun jamming in the middle of a dogfight was the cause of defeat and death in a large number of cases. He noticed the bullets were transported in a haphazard way by uncaring personnel. Dumped in boxes and thrown around in transit resulted in dented cartridges and bent bullet tips. The cloth ammo belts, if frayed or torn contributed to the jamming. He personally got involved in the inspection of these details, removing tainted bullets and discarding belts not worthy to the task. Other pilots did other things in their spare time relegating these details to the “not my job” syndrome. This is called CRAFT…in this case your life depended on it. Your sales career is not your life or is it?
